ISS advising

The international advising team provides advising to international students on F or J status on immigration, personal, social and cultural matters. See below for the types of advising and how to make an appointment. 

Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before your appointment time. If you arrive late for your appointment, you will be asked to reschedule. 

Front Desk Services

The ISS front desk is open from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Front desk staff can assist with general questions and document drop-off and pick-up. No appointment is required. Our front desk can also help with the following services:

  • Concurrent Enrollment (Enrolling at another school) Letter Requests
  • Social Security Number (SSN) Support Letter Requests
  • Request for Change of Major I-20
  • Travel Signature on your I-20 or DS-2019

Walk-In Advising

Walk-in advising sessions are limited to 10–15 minutes per student and are available at the days/times listed below:

Mondays 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.        Note: Last session is at 11:45 a.m.
Tuesdays 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.        Note: Last session is at 11:45 a.m.

How to Schedule a Walk-In Advising Session:

Walk-in advising sessions can only be scheduled in-person at the ISS office on the same day as the appointment, beginning at 8:00 a.m. when the office opens. Please expect to wait to schedule an appointment, as students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

Advising Appointments

Advising appointments can be scheduled for 15 or 30 minutes. Appointments are recommended for more complex issues and immigration advising, including but not limited to:

  • Change of F or J immigration status (such as F-1 to other status or vice-versa)
  • Discussion of options when faced with violation of student status
  • Personal issues and cultural adjustment difficulties
  • Liaison assistance with other CSUF departments or colleges
  • Any situation where you believe more information or personal assistance is needed (such as medical, leave of absence or financial challenges)

Advising appointments are available during these days/times only:

Mondays 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Thursdays 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
