International Housing

When Should I Apply for Housing?

Since many students prefer to live near campus, International Students & Scholars encourages all students to make housing arrangements before their arrival.  

Can I Apply for Cultural Homestay or Campus Dormitory Upon Arrival?

No. This will not be possible. In fact, on the first day of school most homestays and dorms are already reserved. Students must apply for housing in advance.

Can I Apply for an Apartment Upon Arrival?

Since apartments require a payment in order to make reservations, and only few apartments are able to collect the payment via credit card, students might have to complete the application process in Fullerton. During the application process, students might have to stay in a hotel.  

Do I Need to Sign a Contract?

Yes, all students must sign a contract (also known as a leasing agreement).

• CSUF Housing and Residence Life / on-campus dormitory: one academic year (August–May). One semester contracts are available to students who are visiting CSUF students for one semester only. Spaces for one semester contracts are limited.
• Apartments: 3, 4, 5, 6 or 12 months lease is required

Which Option is Best for Me?

You should research our housing options and answer a few questions before making a decision about housing accommodations:

• Do you prefer housing organized and supervised by a school or leasing office, or renting a room from a private individual?
• How long will you be staying in Fullerton? You should make this decision before signing a contract.
• What is your rental budget?

What Kind of Housing Experience is Best for Me?

You should research our housing options and answer a few questions before making a decision about housing accommodations:

• Independent students whose goal is to meet other students and experience college life might enjoy staying in the dormitory (on-campus or off-campus) or one of the local apartments.
• Independent students who prefer a quiet environment and are not able to share living space with other students might enjoy renting a private apartment (studio or one bedroom) or renting a room from a local host.
• Students who would like to learn about American culture or students who are younger and might need help during their first experience of living away from home might enjoy staying with a local homestay family (homestay arrangements are handled by students).
